Who is Playwright for?
Playwright suits product and QA teams whose application must work reliably across browsers and releases. It is especially useful for SPAs, login and payment flows, complex forms, role permissions, and visual regression checks. JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, and .NET teams can use it. For focused Chromium scripts or PDF generation, Puppeteer can be leaner.

Browser projects and isolation
The same flow can run in Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit. Browser contexts isolate session, cookies, and storage, reducing cross-test dependency in parallel runs. Isolation does not replace clean test data: shared accounts and mutable fixtures remain a common flakiness source.
Locators, auto-waiting, and assertions
Playwright waits for actionable elements. That reduces but does not eliminate race conditions. Robust tests use accessible roles, labels, and unique user-facing text rather than CSS hierarchy. An explicit business assertion is more valuable than a screenshot without an expectation.
Trace, video, and reports
Trace Viewer, screenshots, videos, and HTML reports make failed CI runs explainable. Capture artefacts at least on retry or failure. Without retention rules, though, they quickly become costly and may contain test data.
Network, auth, and CI
API calls can be tested or deliberately mocked; stored authentication state can speed suites up. Both require care: mocks must not hide real integration failures, and stored sessions need secret-level protection. Browser binaries, versions, and retries must be intentionally pinned and updated in CI.
Limits and governance
A green browser test does not prove a process is correct. Check accessibility, data quality, and actual permissions separately. Do not write production accounts or personal test data into videos, traces, or artefacts. A team needs an owner for flaky tests and a rule for when a test is repaired versus when a product fault is prioritised.
